Cleaning:

For years the most effective and inexpensive cleaner for glass is simply a mixture of water and vinegar. To wash the glass of your Paramount windows or doors, use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution of 10 parts water to 1 part vinegar. Then wipe clean with a lint free paper towel or cloth.

If you find that there are some faint streak marks, simply wash down with some plain water.

To clean the outside glass surfaces of your Paramount windows and doors, this same concentrated mixture of water and vinegar will work equally as well.

Staining and Painting:

Staining and painting can be a bit of a tricky situation to the novice handy person. Paramount suggests that you source out some experienced help before making your final decisions concerning staining and painting.

As a general rule, all exposed wood must be sealed by staining or painting upon installation to prevent moisture penetration due to exposure and inclement weather.

It is also recommended that you avoid painting locks, weatherstripping and other functional components of the window as this may inhibit their optimum efficiency.

Paints and stains may contain solvents, which can cause weatherstripping to dry up and become brittle, preventing proper insulation and protection.

Preventing Condensation:

Condensation typically occurs from the temperature difference between your home and the outdoor environment.

Controlling the humidity in your home can alleviate any condensation that may be occurring on the interiors of your windows. If you find that there is some build up of condensation on your windows, then you may want to lower the humidity slightly in your home. Lowering the humidity gradually should eventually eliminate any condensation that may have occurred.

It is also important to note that new homes tend to release more humidity as the wood and other construction materials used to build it dry out.

There typically shouldn't be concern for outdoor condensation build up on your windows as it is reflective of a window that is performing optimally by keeping the outdoor elements outside of your home.

Annual Window and Door Maintenance:

There are annual maintenance checks that you can do to ensure that your Paramount windows and doors are working to their full capacity. Some simple yet incredibly beneficial things you can look for include:

Double check to make sure all weatherstripping is still intact and not damaged by the weather.
Examine the window's interior and exterior finish for wear and tear.
Inspect the exterior around the outer edges of the window frame. Ensure that the caulking or silicone is still intact and that there are no "breaks" in the seal.
Check that the locks, handles and other hardware components of the windows and doors are working properly.
Clean any sand, dirt or dust from door and window hinges, wash windows and perform a general annual clean up of your Paramount windows and doors.
